Korean Beef Burgers

What you need

For the burgers

  • 750g beef mince, preferably around

  • 20% fat

  • 3 tbsp Smokey Joe’s Korean BBQ Seasoning

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tsp sesame oil

  • 4 slices tasty cheese

  • 4 brioche burger buns

  • Smokey Joe’s OG BBQ Sauce

  • Oil for cooking

For the salad

  • Fresh lettuce leaves

  • 1 large tomato, sliced

  • ½ red onion, thinly sliced, optional

  • Pickles, Optional

What to do

  • Place the beef mince in a bowl with the Korean BBQ Seasoning, soy sauce and sesame oil. Mix gently until combined, then shape into 4 burger patties.

  • Mix the cabbage, carrot and spring onion in a bowl. Add the mayonnaise, rice wine vinegar, sesame oil and soy sauce, then toss together and set aside.

  • Heat your BBQ hotplate or a cast iron pan over medium high heat with a little oil.

  • Cook the patties for around 4 to 5 minutes on the first side, then turn and cook for another 3 to 4 minutes, depending on how thick you’ve made them.

  • Brush the patties with a little OG BBQ Sauce during the last couple of minutes. Top each one with cheese and let it melt.

To assemble

Toast the brioche buns, then add the lettuce and sliced tomato. Top with the Korean BBQ beef patty and melted cheese, followed by a good spoonful of Smokey Joe’s OG BBQ Sauce.

Simple, fresh and works well with the richer Korean BBQ flavours in the beef.

Joe’s Tip: Don’t work the mince too much when making your patties. Mix it just enough to bring everything together. You want a burger that stays juicy and tender, not one that’s packed down too tight.
